TECHNIQUE:
Raku is an ancient technique of Japanese origin, it literally means "joy of living".
The first firing is carried out at a temperature between 850°C and 1000°C; the second, the raku firing, takes place after the piece has been enamelled in a special kiln where the temperature rises to 920°- 960°C.
At this point, the still-incandescent piece is removed from the kiln with special tongs and placed in a metal container containing combustible material (leaves, newspaper, sawdust, etc.), which causes the so-called reduction. The object is then removed from the container and immersed in water, removing any traces of combustion to reveal the iridescence and brilliance of the glazes.
Each piece is therefore unique and unrepeatable.
Any small imperfections are evidence of this and contribute to its beauty and prestige.
